Security operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command on Monday night engaged highway robbers in a gun battle along Zaria-Kano expressway, killing one of the suspects while the others escaped.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Aminu Lawal confirmed the incident,
According to DSP Lawal, "the incident occurred around 8:30pm on Monday night. We received information that a gang of armed robbers blocked the Zaria-Kano Expressway around a village called Awan-sojoji in Makarfi Local Government area. We mobilised our men immediately and got to the scene and engaged the armed robbery suspects in shootout".
He added that, "in the process, we gunned down one of the robbers who wore an Army camouflage uniform and the others fled. We recovered from him, two guns, out of which one is a toy gun, an axe, 2 GSM handsets, torchlight and the sum of N22, 605".
Lawal stated that the gang was suspected to be one of the notorious robbers that have been terrorising motorists and other travellers along the axis for long.
