Land Reform: Pilot Scheme Takes Off In 2 States

The Chairman, Presidential Technical Committee on Land Reform, Prof. Peter Adeniyi has disclosed that the committee was implementing a pilot scheme which involves the systematic implementation and registration of land title rights in Nigeria.

Speaking during the weekend in Abuja, the chairman said Ondo and Kano States have been selected for the exercise and necessary arrangements were being finalized to ensure success.

He said, “it is the mandate of the committee to collaborate and provide technical assistance to states and local governments to undertake land cadastral nationwide and to determine individuals possessory rights using the best practices and most appropriate technology to determined the process of identification of locations and registration of  title holdings”.

Prof. Adeniyi further stated that the committee was committed to ensure that land cadastral boundaries and title holdings are demarcated in such a way that community, hamlet, village area, town, etc, will be recognizable and to encourage states and local governments to establish an arbitration mechanism for land ownership conflict resolution.
