The federal government has come out with the official reason for the total blackout experienced over the weekend nationwide.

According to the Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, the power generation in Nigeria has dropped below 3,000 megawatts (mw), as a  major explosion that rocked the Benin transmission station of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) at the weekend plunged parts of the country into total blackout.

This is in confirmation to the report by LEADERSHIP that Lagos was plunged into total darkness over the weekend as it experienced one of its worst blackout in recent times, which led to the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) to join other stakeholders in Nigeria’s power sector to call for an alternative means of power generation.

Mr. Adeleke Ibrahim, one of the Leaders of NUEE, Lagos branch,  in a response through a text message to LEADERSHIP, said that the near total outage is not only in Lagos but nationwide.
