The Minister of Science and Technology, Prof Bassey Ewa, has called on China to train Nigerian engineers in the building and fabrication of solar panel chips and smaller satellites so as to make the country self sufficient in the production of these products.

Ewa stated this  when he received a four -man delegation led by the  President of the Great Wall Of China Corporation, Mr. Yin Liming, in his office recently.

Expressing satisfaction with the NigComSat 1R facility which was handed over to Nigeria by the Chinese builders, the Great Wall of China Corporation, Prof Ewa urged the delegation to train Nigerian engineers in space technology.

“We expect the Chinese engineers to teach our engineers how to fabricate and build small satellites. We believe that with this, Nigeria will be able to design, build and launch its own satellite,” he stated.

He requested the delegation to establish a language laboratory at the space centre in order to improve technology diffusion, which will also facilitate technology transfer.

“The centre is unique and will serve as a focal point for the transfer of satellite technology”, he said.

Ewa also said that “based on the success of this technical partnership with China, Nigeria will like to share knowledge areas such as space and nuclear technology, bio and leather technology,  solar technology  and other emerging  technologies that are rapidly growing up in Nigeria.”

Mr. Yin Liming expressed gratitude for the partnership and hoped for more productive collaboration between the two countries.
