Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada yesterday led over 200 golfers to play in the 5th J.K. Gadzama and Partners LLP golf tournament in honour of one of Nigeria’s most successful lawyers, Joe Kyari Gadzama (SAN) who celebrated his 50th birthday.

The one day birthday golf tourney played at the IBB International Golf Course and Country Club saw other prominent personalities like the former senate president, Iyorchia Ayu, chieftain of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Malam Adamu Ciroma, Group Managing Director NNPC, Austen Oniwon, former president Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN), Ngozi Osuhor and others slug it out in the 18 holes tournament to celebrate the legal luminary’s birthday.

Speaking to reporters after teeing off, Gadzama, who was former captain of the IBB Golf and Country Club, expressed appreciation to God for his life and other numerous achievements he has recorded in life. He said the J.K. Gadzama and Partners LLP golf tournament has become an annual championship in the annual calendar events of the IBB Golf and Country Club. “The start point was about five years ago. It started like joke and now it has metamorphosed into a full blown golf tournament. It is our prayer that it continues to be an annual event as a way of encouraging, promoting and enhancing the game of golf in Nigeria. Having served as captain of IBB Club and the nation at various capacities, I believe it is incumbent on me to encourage golf development by creating avenue for Nigerian youths to prosper because l see that it has a lot of advantages.

“The game of golf has been part of me in the last decade, having imbibed it as part of my culture because of the obvious benefits. So, I have a duty and responsibility to promote the game. Moreover, in golf, there is friendship and I have a passion for it. Life is not just about milestones but about moments. You have to enjoy every moment of it”.
