Amidst record participation at the 2012 Captain’s Day Golf Club, Rasaq Muritala has emerged overall winner at the weeklong event that featured over 250 golfers from Lagos and its environs.
The event which is a valedictory event for the Sola Giwa led administration at the club teed off the with caddy competition was rounded off at the nine hole club with the gentlemen’s round that also featured the outgoing Captain who paired with his counterpart from Ikoyi and Ekiti: Ebi Pinick and Gbenga Akinbode respectively.
Elated, Giwa has said that his tenure would be remembered for stimulating corporate patronage for the Club and fostering partnership with same during the outgoing golfing year.
According to him, “I am grateful to God for the modest success of this blissful tenure of service which essentially paid attention to consolidating the corporate outlook of the club by aggressively reaching out to attract corporate patronage and partnership” Gbenga Fakile won the division one for men beating Jimoh Ogundare and Yomi Egbe to the second and third spot respectively, while in the ladies round that was played on Wednesday March 21 Mrs Arugo shot 67 nett to displace Alaba Adetunji to the runner up place.
Taiwo Adewole and Tunji Adeyemo won the Longest drive and nearest to the Pin for the event.
Honourary Secretary of the Club, Jibola Awoseyi said that complimenting the effort of the outgoing committee should be what the new team should be working at as it is evident that the club stands a good stead of enjoying good corporate patronage following the investment of the team.
Some of the sponsors of the Captains Day include, Airflow Engineering Works, Ondo State Government, Kogi State Government, Uleh Ubosi and Co, Seven Up Bottling Company, Protea leadway, Kelon Hisense, Aquadana, PZ Cussons among others.
Other winners at the event include: Chichi Alamu, Sade Opawunmi, Doyin Owolabi and Azeez Adegoke. The event is a precursor to the club’s Annual General Meeting where new committee members would be elected to run the activity of the club for the nest golfing year.
