A four-time World Boxing Heavyweight Champion, Evander Holyfield yesterday visited Akwa Ibom.He was accompanied by the President of Trans-Atlantic Group from North Carolina, Major Alfred Dixon and Executive Vice-President of the group, Dr. Okey Anih. The boxing legend is in the state to promote boxing and prepare Akwa Ibom children for exploits in the Olympic games. Holyfield emerged as phenomena in the Olympic games as an amateur boxer before making a mark in the higher echelons of the sport as a boxing champion at the cruiserweight level and much latter heavyweight.Welcoming the boxing legend Governor Godswill Akpabio commended him for coming to developing boxing in the state, saying he was glad that Holyfield, unlike some other African-Americans, was still doing well and described him as worthy ambassador of the Black Race and the sport of boxing.Akpabio regretted that some African Americans like Mike Tyson, had crashed after their stardom, and urged that "’The group should do a lot of sensitization programme for such African-Americans so that they can call themselves to order - and not lend themselves to excesses.’’
