A Kaduna Chief Magistrates' Court on Wednesday remanded two drivers at the Kaduna Central Prison for allegedly causing the death of a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO).
The accused, Teslim Kareem, 30, and Mustapha Idowu, 28, residents of No. 26 and 28, Oremeji St., Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, allegedly pushed the VIO Frank Madu off a moving truck and he died.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Abba, told the court that the accused persons were arrested on March 19 at about 5 p.m. on Godogodo-Gidan Waya road in Kafanchan for failing to comply with vehicle regulations.
Simon said one Yohanna Ibrahim, a VIO, ordered his colleague, Frank Madu, to escort the accused persons to the Kafanchan VIO office for record purpose.
He said while on their way, the two drivers conspired and diverted their truck toward Jos road, where they stabbed the deceased in the neck and stomach, and pushed him off the moving truck with Lagos State Reg. No XU 894 BDG.
He said the action of the accused was contrary to Sections 96 and 221 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
When the charges were read and interpreted to the accused in Yoruba, they told the court they understood the allegations against them.
The Magistrate, Mr Bashir Shittu, said that he had no jurisdiction to hear the matter and urged the police to hasten their investigation and adjourned to April 23 for further mention.
