PRINCESS Diana was set to star alongside Kevin Costner in a sequel to The Bodyguard, the film star has claimed.

Costner, 57, said: “Diana and I had been talking about doing Bodyguard 2. I told her I would take care of her just the same way that I took care of Whitney.”

The actor and producer gave the late Whitney Houston her debut film role in the 1992 release that depicted the relationship between a bodyguard and the singer he was hired to protect.

He was set to produce a follow-up with Diana, with the plot following a bodyguard shielding a princess in the spotlight.

Costner said: “She wanted me to write it for her. I said ’I’ll tailor it for you if you’re interested.’ She goes, ’I am interested.’”

He added he received a draft script for the film the same day Diana was killed in a Paris car accident in 1997.

Whitney Houston died in a hotel bath in February, with cocaine use and heart disease contributing to her death.
