There was pandemonium yesterday in Tinubu Square area of Lagos which brought business activities to a halt, when some miscreants stabbed their colleague to death with a broken bottle over a quarrel.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased simply identified as Saheed, aged 25years had a quarrel with his assailant, Muri alias Babanla now at large, at Ijora-Badia, a suburb in Iganmu area of Lagos State where Muri sustained arm injury.
An eye witness revealed that, “Babanla was sitting among his colleagues at the entrance of Ajisomo street when the deceased was sighted, walking along Nnamdi Azikwe street at about 9. 30am and was given a hot chase by Babanla and three other youths in their circle.
“Babanla, Ife, Adeniyi Kosoko and Ibrahim Alli alias ‘Abo’ ran after the deceased and catch-up with him near Tinubu square where Muri stabbed him at the back. When Saheed turned back to see his attackers, Muri stabbed him again on the throat, which led to his death on the spot and the assailants took to their heels”, the source narrated.
The incident he said caused commotion in the area as traders who have just opened their shops for business hurriedly locked up and fled.
As the melee unfolded, passersby and motorists that plied the road immediately abandoned the route for alternative routes.
The remains of the deceased were later taken away by his relatives from Ijora-Badia who was informed about the incident by some people that witnessed the incident.
The incident, which was earlier reported at Ebute-Ero police station, was later transferred to Area ‘A’ police command, Lion building where some residents of Ajisomo assisted the police to arrest one of the assailants called Ife, a friend of the deceased and Muri’s mother at Ijora-Badia.
