The Oyo Sector Commander of the FRSC, Godwin Ogagaoghene, says the commission will enforce the use of the seat belt.
Ogagaoghene told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ibadan that many motorists in the state still refuse to use the seatbelt inspite of massive sensitisation by the FRSC.
He said the use of seat belt would reduce the extent of fatality in the event of accidents.
“People are not seat belt-compliant, but we would continue to work on that because it is very important for people to protect themselves.
“In the case of any crash, the injuries that you are supposed to sustain will be minimal. It is one of the restraints in the vehicle that can mitigate any serious injuries in crashes.
“However, we would continue to sensitise road users on the benefits of using the seat belt,’’ he said.
Ogagaoghene, who further called on residents of the state to be safety conscious on the wheels, warned against drinking while driving.
