National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is set to commence the first quarter 2012 national job creation survey to improve available data on the Nigerian labour market.
The survey being conducted in collaboration with the National Planning Commission, Central Bank of Nigeria and Office of Chief Economic Adviser to the President will cover the informal and formal sectors in all thirty-six (36) States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The bureau, which made this known in a statement signed by the Statistician General, Dr Yemi Kale said the main objective of the survey is to provide information and data on the Nigerian labour market through the application of appropriate statistical methodology for tracking variability in the number of jobs created or lost every quarter.
The NBS noted that though the Nigerian economy has shown impressive growth in the last decade, national unemployment rate has however increased over the same period.
He said that as a kickoff, the survey will cover two quarters, October 2011 and March 2012 while subsequent surveys will cover only the preceding quarter.
“Our field officers will be visiting the selected establishments and households between April 23 and May 4, 2012 to collect the required data.
The NBS hereby solicits from establishments/households the necessary cooperation for the success of this exercise, particularly in completing the questionnaires correctly.
In compliance with the Statistical Act, 2007, all information collected through this survey will be held in strict confidence and used for statistical and planning purposes by the Federal Government only and not the individual details of companies themselves,” he said.
