Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared that there is mutual unity, love and understanding among the Northern traditional rulers.
The Sultan spoke at the commissioning ceremony of five first-class Emirs’ houses built in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
The sultan, who was also in Jigawa State along with over 40 other royal fathers for the Northern Emirs’ meeting, stated that they are using their position and the existing cooporation amongst themselves to chart or canvass policies or projects that will enhance the socio-economic conditions and well-being of the region and Nigeria at large.
He explained that, whenever they meet individually or at a general meeting, their main agenda is how to promote peace, unity and prosperity of the entire region and extend the same hope to the nation.
“Our recent convergence of the northern traditional rulers on Sokoto for the commissioning of the Almajiri Model School by President Goodluck Jonathan and our coming together for this occasion in Dutse symbolises the unity that exists within the institution and the zeal to identify ourselves with good governance at any level,” he said.
“We would always identify ourselves with any Government that has the passion for touching the lives of its people, just the way Alhaji Sule Lamido is doing, this is the fifth time I am coming to Jigawa to either commission or witness a laudable programme put in place by this Governor that has a passion for transforming the lives of his people”.
According to the Sultan, the way governor Lamido transformed Jigawa within a short period of time and illustrated his support in constructing the first-class guest houses for the Emirs in the state capital indicates that he is not only Jagoran Talakawa but also a respecter of traditional institutions.
He said, “If states, local governments and traditional institutions would work in collaboration with one another like it is obtained in Jigawa, there would be harmony in the north and the country in general.’’
Governor Lamido described traditional institutions as a treasure for the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage and moral values which are some of the basic qualities any leader should have.
