The President of the United States, Barrack Obama has welcomed the judgment by the world apex court, sitting in Sierra Leone, convicting the former president of Liberia, Charles Taylor of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He said in a press statement made available to LEADERSHIPWEEKEND that Thursday’s judgment was an important step towards delivering justice and accountability for victims, which would in turn restore peace and stability to Sierra Leone and the sub-region.
The US leader added that Taylor’s prosecution in the Special Court delivers a strong message to all perpetrators of atrocities, including those in the highest positions of power, that they would be held accountable.
