Police Arrests 76 For Alleged Robbery, Rape In Katsina

The Police in Katsina State on Monday announced the arrest of 76 people for alleged robbery, rape and criminal conspiracy.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Shehu Muhammad told newsmen in Katsina that the suspects, were mostly miscreants, locally known as ``Kauraye’’,  arrested in different parts of the state in the past one month.

Muhammad said that the items recovered from them included five AK-47 rifles with 28 rounds of ammunitions, 15 Dane guns, 20 machetes, 31 clubs, N65, 500 fake notes, army uniforms and 28 motorcycles.

He said the suspects violated sections 307, 304 and 97(b) of the Penal Code; section 8 of the Public Order Act and section (1) and (2) of Robbery and Fire Arms Special Provision Cap 389 Laws of the Federation.

The police spokesman said the suspects would soon be charged to court, and assured that the command would continue to raid criminal hideouts as part of efforts to combat crimes in the state.

He advised parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children and to monitor their association with other children to ensure that they were not deceived into joining criminal gangs.

Meanwhile, the police has arrested one Abdullahi Haruna for allegedly killing three policemen in Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state.

He said the suspect was arrested on Sunday and was assisting the police in its investigations.

The three policemen were ambushed and shot dead by unknown gunmen, who also burnt the police patrol vehicle the deceased were using.
