Flying Eagles Coach, John Obuh has banned all invited Under-20 players from further participation in their club matches vowing to shut the door against such player no matter his relevance to the team.
According to him, the warning has become necessary to enable the team’s technical crew concentrate on the task of raising a formidable squad that will do Nigeria proud at the invitational tournament coming up in South Africa in a few weeks time.
The Nigeria Football federation (NFF), we learnt has also threatened to sanction any club that withholds their players from the U-20 camp starting with this midweek matches, in line with agreement reached with the clubs. The crew has so far sent home a number of players from over 50 so far screened in the new campaign.
“What we have done is to stop the players from playing in the league. So, movement of players back to their clubs has been stopped. From this midweek there is no such movement. Any player that fails to show up should consider himself out of the build up and such player will be sanctioned by the NFF alongside his club because that was the agreement that was reached with the clubs”.
Speaking further, Obuh said henceforth, the technical crew will begin to take a closer look at the players adding that any addition from the club sides will be based on need. He pointed out that seven players out of those in camp are nursing one form of injury or the other.
“Any invitation from now on will be on the need and specific role we want a player to come and fill. Trials is for now put on hold till we come back from South Africa, we may have time to look at some new invitees before the qualifiers”, he said.
