The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) representatives, Ike Paulinus and Aghedo Sunday at the weekend rectified Edo State governorship aspirant, Solomon Edebiri as the sole candidate of the Coalition of Political Parties (CPP) for the July 14 governorship election in the state.

Edebiri emerged through a voice vote during the primaries in Benin city at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre to the admiration of his supporters.

In his acceptance speech, Edebiri promised to revamp all the comatose industries in the state, describing the death of these companies as ‘unacceptable’.

In spite of expectations that he will back out of the race, he, however insisted that he remains the only candidate with a clear cut manifesto and policies that will transform the state for the better.

“I am not going to back out for any candidate.  we have come into this race to win and we will not settle for less. We cannot sit down to pretend that all is well. Never again will the children of this State suffer any form of deprivation under my leadership”.

“The 10 Political Parties that form the coalition have adopted me, I am the candidate to beat. We will reopen all the dead industries if voted into power and my administration will not disappoint you”, he added.

Earlier, Edo State Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP), Engineer Steve Aimufua in his remark, said the primary was conducted to elect an alternative candidate. He called on Edo people not to trade their votes to money bags politicians whom he accused of inducing electorates with cash and other gift items.
