The World Bank will be begin its annual conference on Development Economics tomorrow, Monday in its bid to further improve on global economy.
This conference organized by the World Bank Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) will take place on May 7–8 at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The theme is "Accountability and Transparency for Development"
Keynote Speakers at the event are Mr. Hernando de Soto of the Institute for Liberty and Democracy, Peru and Mr. Timothy Besley of the London School of Economics in United Kingdom.
The session on Accountability and Transparency in the Financial Sector which will examines Issues and Empirical Evidence will be chaired by Augusto Lopez-Claros, Director, Global Indicators and Analysis, Financial and Private Sector Development, World Bank.
Parts of the programmes is the Understanding the Incentives of Commissions Motivated Agents as well as the Role of Information Sharing and Financial Sector Outreach where the Theory and Evidence from the Indian Life Insurance Market will be examined.
The Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE) which is the world's best-known conference for the presentation and discussion of new knowledge on development economics aims at promoting the exchange of ideas among researchers, policy makers, and students interested in development issues.
The first ABCDE was held in Washington, D.C., in 1988 and since then it has taken place once a year with the exception of the years 2004–2007 when a regional ABCDE conference was also held in the same year as the global ABCDE.
The ABCDE is frequently organized jointly by the Bank and a host country, and usually attracts around 500 participants including academics, government officials, representatives from international financial institutions, and students.
