Gunmen suspected to be cultists weekend killed a member of staff of the State Security Services (SSS) identified as Mr petrus Onwu.
Onwu's brutal murder followed multiple cult clashes that took place in different parts of the state on the fateful day.
It was gathered that the suspects from the Enugu state University of science and Technology (ESUT), who carried out their operation with a motorcycle, also injured one Philomena Udealor, a sales girl with one of meat shops located at Atisan market.
They were said to have shot in the air severally after robbing and shooting the hapless girl to instill fear in the people.
It was gathered that the SSS official was shot in the head by while he was driving with his wife in a Mercedes Benz 230E flat boot with registration no BS138 KJA along Ogui road, Enugu.
A source told LEADERSHIP that the late security operative , who was swiftly rushed to the Annunciation Hospital Emene, was later confirmed dead by a doctor in the hospital.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the death of the SSS official.
He added that his remains had been deposited at the mortuary for post mortem examination.
Amaraizu, however, stated that philomena udealor who was rushed to parklane Hospital Enugu, was responding to treatment.
“The state police commissioner,Musa A. Daura has expressed his displeasure over the incident just as he has directed all his Divisional police officers to ensure that no okada operator or motorcycle operates in those areas where the state Government has designated as a no go area for motorcycle and assured that the okada menace and cult activities will be a thing of the past in the state and appealed for a calm”. He stated.
