Five Governors of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the South West, yesterday, condemned the assassination of the Private Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, Comrade Olaiton Oyerinde by yet to be identified gunmen at his resident last Thursday in Benin.
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, who led Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and Governor Amosun Ibikunle of Ogun State expressed shock at what they described as the orgy of politically motivated violence and killings in Edo State.
Fashola, who spoke on behalf of the other governors, said, “we came today to sympathise with you and with the people and government of Edo State on the very sad and unfortunate incident and the spate of violence that have occurred in the last few days. We have come to express our solidarity and also to condemn the spate of violence that have been manifesting in the run up to the election in this state.
“We have come to commiserate with you and to urge you to continue with the good work that you have continued to do since you took office in the state. We also wish to convey our sympathy to the families of your aides who were victims of this incidence; we pray that God will comfort them”.
Meanwhile, as security authorities in Edo State has launched a man hunt for the killers of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s aide, Olaiton Oyerinde, the Police have offered to pay N10 million reward to anyone with useful information that will lead to the arrest of the assassins.
Comrade Oyerinde was killed in the early hours of Friday, May 4, 2012 by unknown gunmen.
Announcing the N10 million rewards in Benin City yesterday, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Mr. Peter Gana said no stone would be left unturned to get the killers of Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde.
The DIG Investigations said he was in Benin City to complement the efforts of the state police command.
“We have opened three telephone lines for the public to assist in the investigations. The governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has offered a N10 million reward to anyone that can lead to the arrest of those responsible for the death of the governor’s aide,” he added.
He gave the telephone lines as Etisalat- 080178624253, Glo -08158823049, MTN -0814177026, saying the lines would be active from 3:00 pm today.
He assured the people of the State that the Police would do its best to guarantee the safety of lives of the citizenry.
