INEC said no election was slated to hold last Saturday for Oguta State constituency.

The Public Relations Officer of INEC in Imo,  Mr Chinedu Onyeji,  was reacting to a story that ``made the rounds'' that  election was scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 5, in Oguta.

Onyeji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Monday that NEC had earlier said the Oguta state constituency election of the April 2012 was inconclusive following an alleged electoral irregularities.

The Public Relations Officer noted that the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo, Prof. Celina Oko, had organised stakeholders meeting in Oguta Local Government Area to sample their opinion on the pending election.

He further said that the Oguta stakeholders decided at the meeting to conduct the election on May 5, 2012.

Onyeji said that such decision was not binding because the request must get the approval of INEC headquarters before the Resident Electoral Commissioner could act on it.

He also noted that INEC would not fail to give 14 days notice or announcement through the media before conducting any election. (NAN)
