The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, has blamed the widespread level of corruption in the African sub-region for the increasing poverty and under-development witnessed in the region.
Lamorde stated this when he received a delegation of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa(OSIWA), led by Adaora Ikenze, yesterday. He said that the time had come for more civil society groups to emulate OSIWA in teaming up with the EFCC in combating corruption in the country.
“Corruption has completely made it impossible for most of the sectors in the sub-region to develop. The greatest problem that has hampered development in Nigeria and in other African countries is the issue of corruption,” he said.
