The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Aminu Maigari has commended the leadership of the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) for what he described ‘a surprise achievement’ recorded by the league body within a short time in office. He made the commendation when NNWL executive committee lead by its chairman, Ahmed Kawu Muazu paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He assured the committee of NFF’s support to record more successes that will help enhance the growth of football in the country. “I am impressed with what I have heard and seen about the Nationwide League. What you have done within the few months you came onboard are quite impressive and it’s surprising that you are able to record these achievements, which means before the end of your tenure, the Nationwide league would become a delight to the nation.”
He said the NFF will assist the board of the NNWL to enable it surpass their target since the league is in a strategic position for the development of football in the country, especially at the grassroots level.
He called on well meaning Nigerians, corporate bodies and individuals to lend their support to the league body. “I am calling on corporate bodies, individuals, government and all football lovers in the country and beyond the shore of Nigeria to support the good work the board of the nationwide league has started in repositioning our football in the grassroots which is the basic for football development.”
The chairman of the nationwide league, Ahmed Kawo Muazu informed the NFF president, Aminu Maigari that the (board members of Nationwide) thought it wise to update him and Nigerians in general on the level of achievement recorded so far in the league. He said, “We have successfully changed the name of the league from the Amateur to Nationwide league, we have held board meetings four times within six months in office, we have moved from a one room office in the football house to a well furnished and equipped office at the Goal Project of Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja and we have also engaged the services of a consultant and a marketing firm to promote and market our activities.”
