Justice Halliru Abdullahi of the Kano High Court yesterday convicted one Bello Garba Bello to death by hanging for killing his parents and three of his siblings.
The presiding judge said that Bello was found wanting by the court for killing his father, Alhaji Garba Bello, a deputy director with the State Security Service in Sokoto State, his mother, Hajiya Habiba Garba and his three siblings, Murjanatu, Hafsat and Halimat.
While reading the 66-page judgment which lasted for one-and-half hours, Justice Abdullahi declared that based on the evidence tendered before the court, he was satisfied that the accused person actually committed the killings and was therefore sentenced on all the five-count charge, accordingly.
Immediately the judgement was passed, the convict who initially looked unruffled, however began to raise his hand to attract the judge’s attention and said, “My lord, I have something to say.”
He was however ignored by the presiding judge. His counsel who spoke after the conviction said the convict was one of the remaining two survivors of the family, apart from the first witness and pleaded that the judge reconsiders the verdict.
