‘Ojukwu, the Rebel I Served,’ a book written by Uche Ezechukwu, veteran journalist and public analyst would be presented to the public this week at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Abuja.
The book which captures some of the innermost secrets and exploits of the former Biafra leader and foremost Nigerian soldier who died last year has long been expected in the public domain after receiving several media exposes and analysis by some of the nation’s most celebrated literary critics.
According to a statement signed on behalf of the organising by Chief Emeka Okengwu, the book presentation will take place at 9.30am on Thursday 17th May 2012 and would be hosted by all the governors of South East state, including Peter Obi of Anambra, Sullivan Chime of Enugu, Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Martin Elechi of Ebonyi and Theodore Orji of Abia, with Senator Chief Ben Obi as Chairman while Dr. Babangida Aliyu, the governor of Niger State will present the keynote speech.
‘Ojukwu, The Rebel I Served’ is an account of a journalist who stayed and worked closely with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu for two years at the end of a major and harrowing torments of his life- after leading the Biafra war against Nigeria that lasted for almost three years. Ezechukwu became a loyal confidant of the former ‘rebel’ after his return from a 13-year exile and into a tumultuous political experience that led to his imprisonment. The book encapsulates the qualities of high personal integrity, moral uprightness and humility of a man many loved to misunderstand and rather labelled as an ambitious soldier and war monger.
