Nigeria striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni is set to quit relegated Blackburn Rovers as his manager Steve Kean has accepted that possible likelihood though he wants the Nigerian to stay to help Rovers chase immediate promotion from the Championship.
Aiyegbeni scored 17 goals for Rovers this season but it was not enough to save his team from relegation in what was his best scoring period ever in his 12 seasons in the Premier League.
Kean was quick to stress the fact that they plucked Aiyegbeni out of employment and took a chance on the Everton outcast. "We were the ones that took Yakubu out of the wilderness," said Kean on the club website.
"He's had his highest scoring season for a number of years, hopefully he can stay. If he doesn't stay then we'll deal with that when it happens," Kean added.
It has been speculated that the likes of Queens Park Rangers, newly-promoted Reading and West Bromwich are looking the way of the Nigerian record goal scorer in the Premier League.
