The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kano Zone, has expressed  concern that universities within the zone were overstretching their post graduate programmes with over admission of students leading to lecturers being burdened with supervision.

This  was contained in a communiqué issued  and signed by Mahmud Lawal and seven other officers of the union  at the end of their meeting which was held yesterday at the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero to discuss issues affecting the national and the state branches.

In the eight point communiqué, the union leaders noted the adverse consequences on both the quality of graduates and the health of lecturers and urged Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University Katsina and other states’ universities in the zone to pay all agreed allowances including the excess workload.

The zonal meeting also called on the management and proprietors of Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero  to avert the impending crisis by paying the salary arrears arising from the implementation of the 2009 agreement.
