The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja would deliver judgement today in a suit filed by the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),Prince Abubakar Audu.

Audu is challenging the return of Captain Idris Wada in the December 3, 2011 gubernatorial poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement in Lokoja, the secretary of the tribunal, Mr. Peter Richard, said that the judgment would be delivered by 9 O’clock this morning.

The tribunal had last week Thursday endorsed the written addresses of the counsels to the litigants after submitting same on the matter.

Both counsels to Governor Wada, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and INEC, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Chris Uche-SAN and Yusuf Ali [SAN] respectively had argued that the petitioner had no case.

They urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition and said that it not only lacked merit, but was dead on arrival.

But counsel to the petitioner, Charles Edowosan insisted that his client won the last governorship election.

He therefore urged the three-member tribunal to do justice on the matter by declaring Prince Abubakar Audu as the winner of the exercise.

At the moment, the attention of the people of the state is focused on what would likely be the outcome of the case even as there was tension among the loyalists and supporters of the two political parties.
