The lawmaker representing Plateau North Senatorial zone in the National Assembly, Senator Gyang Dantong, has commended the recent action of the federal government towards bringing lasting peace to Plateau State.

Senator Dantong gave the commendation while speaking to newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

He however remarked that “there have been renewed violence in some local government in Plateau Northern senatorial zone, especially Barkin Ladi  and Riyom LGA respectively.”

According to him the renewed ethnic violence in the zone has led to destruction of lives and properties leading to emergence of about 5,000 displaced persons spread between Plateau and neighbouring Kaduna State.

“As the senator from the zone, I’m aware the former commander of the Special Task Force (STF) on Jos crisis codenamed ‘Operation Safe Haven’ has been changed and a new one has taken over.

“This is a very commendable step taken by the federal government as the changes at the head of the command is a sign that the security chiefs are very sensitive to current situation in Plateau State,” Dantong said , just as he lamented the renewed bloodshed in night attacks which resurfaced in the tenure of the last commander.
