Mr Mike Omeri, Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), has appealed to members of the National Assembly to restructure their constituency offices.
Omeri gave the advice in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Paul Odenyi and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
It said that the restructuring would make such offices places where youths could be reformed and mentored.
The statement also called on the lawmakers to restructure the offices to serve as Public Advocacy Bureau (PAB) for the development of the society.
It said that a situation whereby youths went to the constituency offices of their legislators as hangers-on was unacceptable, adding that the development would not add value to their lives.
The statement suggested that the constituency offices should be manned by professionals who would mentor and develop the youths to become leaders of tomorrow.
It advocated that lobby system should be used to influence government policies and ensure peaceful resolution of issues.
The statement said that Omeri also condemned the use of violence to enforce a change in government policies.
It advised private organisations to constitute themselves into lobby groups to influence such policies through the National Assembly.
The statement said NOA would collaborate with relevant agencies to transform the country and encourage Nigerians in the Diaspora to return home and fit into the society. (NAN)
