The police on Friday arraigned one Shola Kazeem, 34, and his wife, Mujiddat Kazeem, 22, before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court charged with mischief.

The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo, told the court that the case was reported at the Lugbe Police Station by one Mrs Josephine Amadi of Chika Village, Abuja, on May 15.

Anigbo said that the accused sometime in April went to a garden where the complainant planted her vegetables and destroyed them.

He added that the vegetables destroyed include bitter leaves, curry leaves and pumpkin leaves, valued at N50,000.

The prosecutor said that the accused were unable to give satisfactory account of their action during interrogation, adding that the offence contravened section 327 of the Penal Code.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecutor asked the court to fix a date for hearing in view of the denial of the charge.

The Counsel to the accused, Mr Nnaemeka Ikechukwu, made an oral application for bail of the accused based on the provisions of section 341 of the Criminal Procedure Code, adding that the accused will not jump bail.

Magistrate Rosemary Kanyip then granted bail to the accused in the sum of N5,000 each with a reasonable surety who should reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

She adjourned the case till June 17, for further hearing. (NAN)
