Four workers of Living Spring Orphanage Home were on Friday remanded in Ikoyi Prison for the alleged death of an 18-months-old baby.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko of the Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, adjourned the case to June 26 for advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
``It is important to get the view of the DPP on this case,’’ the magistrate said.
The accused persons Nnenna Ugochukwu, 22, Jessica Ekim, 46, Comfort Henshaw, 39 and Ahmed Akanji, 32 were arraigned on a two-count charge.
No pleas were taken from them before the magistrate remanded them in prison pending the outcome of the legal advice from the DPP’s office.
Prosecutor Babaji Ishiaku alleged that the accused persons on Feb. 26 caused the death of the 18-months-old baby.
Ishiaku said that the accused persons caused the baby’s death by neglecting her in a car that its windows were ``tightly closed’’.
``The death of the baby which happened at Plot 22, Yusuf Abiodun Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, was caused by the negligence of these four.
``The baby suffocated in the car which resulted in her death,” Ishiaku said.
The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
