Sympathisers from all walks of life converged at Tse Mker, Mbagbam Ute in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State to pay their last tributes as the remains of the Late Godwin Akpenlamen Dabo were laid to rest. He died on March 15, 2012 and the burial took place on Saturday.
But there was serious controversy at the burial as family members of the late Dabo publicly traded words over issues of legitimacy of some members of the family, burial planning committee and venue of the burial ceremony among others. It took the intervention of elder statesmen to calm the situation.
In his sermon, the priest in charge of St. Jude’s Catholic Parish Koti-Yough, Rev. Fr. Pascal Kumaga, said that death was inevitable and that no matter the controversies that surround a man, God’s free gift of life was a blessing rather a curse.
Vice President Namido Sambo, who was represented by his special Adviser on projects monitoring, Engr. John Tion, described the late Dabo as a victorious man who contributed immensely to the development and growth of the entire country.
Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, represented by the secretary to the state government, Dr. David Salifu, identified the late Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain as a fearless personality who added great value to the party. The governor further urged members of the family to unite despite the great and irreparable loss.
In their separate remarks, the senator representing Benue North East, Dr. Barnabas Gemade, former Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Prof. Iorwuese Hagher, former Senate president, Dr. Iorchia Ayu, Chief Jacob Tilley Gyado said the late Dabo was a man of many qualities, and that his death should rather serve as a great lesson for people in the state to join hands in building a greater Benue.
