A bomber who attempted to gain entry into the Radio House venue of a national ministerial press briefing was on Monday apprehended by security personnel who nabbed him at the main entrance.
LEADERSHIP learnt that the man whose name was given as John Akpabu concealed ammunitions including grenades in a black nylon bag which he hid inside a black nylon bag.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the arrest caused panic in and around the centre even as the Chief Security Officer at Radio House, Mr James Akindele, told reporters that the suspect was arrested at the main entrance.
Akindele said: ``This afternoon, our operatives arrested a man with rounds of 7.7 mm live ammunition and three 86 hand grenades, all concealed in a polythene bag and put in a black bag.
``We have not interrogated him, we just apprehended him. What we want to do now is to hand him over to the police for further investigation and then you will all get to know more about his case.”
A staff of one of the radio stations located inside the Radio House who said he saw when the security personnel was interrogating the man said when the news went round that a suspected suicide bomber was arrested in the premises of the Radio House, it caused pandemonium as many people who did not want to become causalities went on a stampede.
Police authorities said they are still investigating the man to find out his motives as well as get his other accomplices.
The Radio House houses federal Ministry of Information, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Voice of Nigeria VON, Kapital FM, among other media organisations.
