3 Remanded Over Murder, Illegal Firearms Possession

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded three men who were charged with murder and the illegal possession of firearms.

Magistrate M. O. Ope-Agbe remanded MuritalaAkanbi (32) Seun Kukoyi (27) and Dare Odeyemi (40) at the Ikoyi Prisons pending when the court would receive advice from state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

According to the prosecutor, ASP Femi Oluruntoba, the trio, all residents of Mushin, Lagos, committed the offences between June 26, 2010 and April 5, 2012 at Mushin.

He said that the defendants were found to unlawfully possess arms and 10 rounds of ammunition on April 5 after they killed one Mr Wasiu Ajose.

The prosecutor said that the arms and ammunition included two automatic pump action with serial Nos. 211 and 104, a police AK47 rifle magazine and 29 live cartridges.

He said the others were a pistol with serial No. H22913, a double barrelled long gun with serial No. 13742, a damaged pump action, a single barrelled bud 10K2 ammunition, two AK47 live ammunition, a small box rifle care kit and a military fez cap.

Oluruntoba said that the offences contravened Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State and Section 27 (b) of the Firearms (Special Provisions) Act.

The case has been adjourned till June 15 for the DPP’s advice.
