Senate President David Mark on Wednesday in Abuja carried out a minor reshuffle of the leadership of three standing committees of the Senate and appointed vice chairmen for three other committees.
The reshuffling saw Sen. Ahmed Makarfi (PDP-Kaduna) emerging as the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.
Makarfi replaces Sen. Bassey Otu (PDP-Cross River) who had previously headed the Committee on Finance.
Makarfi was chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance in the sixth Senate but lost his election to return to the Senate a second time to Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed.
Baba-Ahmed was however removed by the court and Makarfi was returned to the Senate earlier in the year.
Otu was named the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions which was formerly headed by Sen. Ayo Adeseun (ACN-Oyo).
Adeseun would now head the Senate Committee on Capital Market which was formerly headed by Sen. Abdu Yandoma who is no longer a senator, having being removed by the court.
Meanwhile, Sen. Attai Aidoko (ANPP-Kogi) was appointed Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy haven replaced Sen. Emmanuel Ocheja who was also removed from the Senate by a court order.
Sen. Hadi Sirika (CPC-Katsina) was named Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) while Sen. Abubakar Yar' Adua (CPC- Katsina) is the new Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism.(NAN)
