The Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, will today travel out of Nigeria through South Africa, ahead of this weekend’s 2012 African Women Championship qualifying match against their Zimbabwean counterparts in Harare.
The delegation will fly out of Lagos aboard a South African Airways flight.On Tuesday, Head Coach Kadiri Ikhana listed 21 players for the match,which return leg is billed for Nigeria on June 16.
Goalkeeper and Captain Precious Dede is at the head of the squad, with assistant Captain Stella Mbachu, Tochukwu Oluehi, Gloria Ofoegbu, Ngozi Ebere, Chidinma Okoro, Onyinyechi Ohadugha, Evelyn Nwabuiku, Onome Ebi, Joy Jegede, Gladys Akpa, Regina Macfancy, Akudo Iwuagwu, Perpetua Nkwocha, Amenze Aighewi, Abosede Olukayode, Desire Oparanozie, Shola Oyewusi, Rita Chikwelu, Gloria Iroka and Esther Sunday also included.
The delegation will connect a South African Airways flight from Johannesburg to Harare on tomorrow morning.Ikhana said yesterday: “We have been in camp for some weeks now andwe have done a lot of work. I believe that we have a team that will doNigeria proud by not only knocking out Zimbabwe but going to Equatorial Guinea in November to retain the African title.”The Super Falcons have won every edition of the African Women
Championship bar one, since the inaugural event that Nigeria hosted in 1998. The only edition where the trophy went a different way was the2008 finals in Equatorial Guinea.
