Doris Ukwade also known as RIZZZ is not a push over in the music industry, the eccentric lady in an exclusive interview with Anthony Ada Abraham poke on her music career, her new video and other sundry issues.
Tell us about yourself and how you came into the music industry?
I come from Uvwie Local Government area of Delta State. I had my education in Delta state before moving to Lagos to pursue my music career. I started with a live band at Ikorodu before moving on to the studio in 2004.
So how has it been since then?
It has not been easy but I am doing well. I just had to take my time to learn more and gain more experience in the industry before launching out.
So what is your style, your genre of music?
Ok...I do dancehall and R'n'B
Why do you regard yourself as the Lady Gaga of Nigeria?
I call myself that name because of my style of music and the 'gaga' thing came from the street because I have been running my things on the street. I am not bearing gaga because I love lady gaga. I bear that name because of my way of life and my style of music. I love lady gaga a lot but I do not dress or behave like her. My idea is different from hers.
What are you bringing into the music scene that is different from the everyday thing?
Well I am bringing in something very different. But in music this day you have to give people what they want. There are so many talented artists but with the situation in the music industry they have to dance to the tune of the masses by giving then what they want. But my album is going be different from the regular ones you hear every day. It is going to be a good delivery for the matured minds. But for now I released just a track of what they want to hear. If you listen to my second song you would understand what I am talking about. The track is titled 'Lonely Girl'
What inspired you to write 'Lonely Girl' and other songs?
When I wrote 'Lonely Girl', I was all alone at home and lonely one day nobody to talk to or play with. That was how I got the inspiration to write the song. I know there are so many people out there that are lonely. I get inspired with things around me. For instance I may be playing or talking or even walking and inspiration would come. That is how I write my songs. Sometimes I get inspirations from my dreams; I will sing it out and put it down in writing. There is one of my song Wipe Your Tears, it came from my dream. I get Inspiration from everything around me.
So who would you want to collaborate with in Nigeria and Europe?
It will be a great privilege to work with Tuface and 9ice. These are the two people I admires a great deal because they are good, talented and matured.
Finally, what is your message to other upcoming young artistes craving to make an impact in the entertainment industry?
My message is always believe in yourself in everything you do. Do not give up no matter the circumstances you find yourself, hold on strongly to your dream and believe that you can do it because good things do not always come easy.
If you believe in yourself, others would believe in you. One more thing put God first in anything you do because you can do nothing without Him.
Be strong and do not give up.
