President Goodluck Jonathan is to inaugurate the third phase of the Obajana Cement Company plant in Kogi on June 11.

The Deputy Governor of Kogi, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, made the announcement at Obajana, near Lokoja on Wednesday while on an assessment tour of the plant preparatory to the President’s visit.

Awoniyi said that the completion of the plant with capacity to produce 5.25 million tonnes of cement per year annum was a testimony to the state’s abundant human and material resources.

According to him, the president is to also use the visit to perform the ground-breaking ceremony of the fourth phase of  the three million tonnes of cement per annum plant, planned by the company.

Awoniyi said that the two plants would help to improve the economy of the state, describing the plants as massive and sophisticated.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr Van Anatharamanan, described the newly-built plant as environmental friendly, saying that most of the materials used in its construction were locally made.

He noted that the completion of the plant would raise the daily production of the company to 6, 000 metric tonnes per day.
