Amb. Mokgethi Monaisa, Consul-General of the South African High Commission in Nigeria, on Monday promised easier visa issuance to Nigerians.

Monaisa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the commission would henceforth make consular services available to Nigerians promptly.

“We need to correct some misconceptions about our visa issuance to Nigerians. Entrance of Nigerians into South Africa has never been difficult.

“The commission is currently looking at how best to make Nigerians’ entrance into South Africa easier,’’ he said.

The consul-general said that the high commission had always given Nigerians preference in its consular services.

He advised them to apply for visa in time for quick processing.

Monaisa told NAN that the high commission’s consular section daily got between 300 and 500 applicants from Nigerians.

“South Africa sees Nigeria as a brother and will always protect and accommodate the interest of Nigerians seeking entrance.

“There are many Nigerians living, working and schooling in South Africa. There is a daily increase in the number of Nigerians requesting for visas,’’ he said.

He urged that the two countries should strengthen and promote trade and tourism between them.

He urged investors to take advantage of the “huge” tourism potential of the country. (NAN)
