An Akure Senior Magistrate's Court on Tuesday ordered that a 20-year-old apprentice, Tunde Akinrodoye, be remanded in prison custody for allegedly killing his uncle’s wife.
The accused was said to have committed the offence on May 31 at Ayiesanmi Street, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District.
The police said Akinrodoye killed one, Dupe Akinrodoye, 30, by giving her drugs to procure an abortion.
The offence, according to police prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Atandeyi, was contrary to and punishable under Section 316 (5) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. I Laws of Ondo State 2006.
The plea of the accused person was not taking as the offence of murder is outside the jurisdiction of the court.
The accused person’s uncle, 50-year-old Tunde Akinrodoye, is a blind begger.
From the statement of the accused person to the police, he admitted that he was sleeping with his uncle’s wife.
He admitted that he slept with his uncle’s wife twice in the month of May, 2012 in the residence of the husband.
Tunde, however, said in his statement that the deceased woman did not tell him that she was pregnant and he did not give her any drug to terminate the pregnancy.
In her ruling, the Senior Magistrate Charity Adeyanju ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody while the police should send the case file to the DPP for legal advice.
She adjourned the case to Aug. 1 for mention. (NAN)
