Teams that registered for Season 4 of the annual Nigeria Insurance Games are gearing up for the event as all is set for the commencement of the event. The teams are upbeat about their chances of either consolidating on past good outing or improving on their performance. The tournament kicks of June 16 at the Sports Complex of the University of Lagos, Akoka. Already primed for the most prestigious Insurance Games in the Corporate Nigeria Games fixture are Cornerstone Insurance, Sovereign Trust Insurance, Union Assurance, NEM Insurance, Leadway Assurance and competition debutants, Industrial and General Insurance (IGI).
The Insurance Games marks the official start of the Corporate Nigeria 2012 season which also includes competitions in the Bankers Games, Telecommunication Games and FMCG Games. Organisers of Corporate Nigeria Games, MediaVision Limited announced last week that in addition to the football event for men, the registered Insurance companies will be fielding their women team for honours in the Tale Tennis and Athletics events to raise their chances of emerging overall champions. A ceremonial march past will herald the Opening ceremony with a novelty match between two Corporate Nigeria Games participants, LM Ericsson of Telecommunication Games and the Nigeria Bankers Games’ Stanbic IBTC Bank. It has been projected than no fewer than 2000 spectators will be on the stands each day of this season’s competitions.
Lanre Idris, MediaVision’s Brand Manager for the Nigeria Insurance Games explained that “we have put in place a colourful and carnival-like organization for the opening ceremonies and a high quality novelty match to herald this edition and indeed the opening of the 2012 Corporate Nigeria Games season”. Idris disclosed that two competitive matches will be played after the novelty match on the opening day. This will feature the defending champions, NEM Insurance and Cornerstone Insurance while the second fixture will be between Sovereign Trust Insurance and Union Assurance. IGI and Leadway Assurance will play their opening games the following day. Admission to the venue for all the matches is free.
