The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOS), Alhaji Isa Sali Bello, yesterday declared open the tenth batch of mandatory training programme of 750 officers in the Federal Civil Service from Grade Level 08-16, of which 650 officers are being trained in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Declaring open the training workshop yesterday at the Public Service Institute (PSI) in Abuja, the Head of Service stated that “the objective of the training is to build and strengthen the ability of officers to efficiently and effectively deliver service and contribute significantly to the achievement of the Millennium Development goals (MDGs), the Vision 20:2020 programme and other National Development Agenda through higher productivity and performance.”

Speaking through a representative the Permanent Secretary, Manpower Development Office in the Head of Service Office, Mrs. Nkechi Ijere, he remarked that the MTP was initiated in 2009 by his predecessor and this is the tenth in the series.

“This 10th batch comprises 750 officers for mandatory training and 650 officers for ICT training,” he said.

“You will recall that when I took over the mantle of leadership of the Civil Service, I promised to continue with the programme not only because of the premium government places on capacity building for Civil Servants, but also because the previous editions have proved useful. Today’s ceremony therefore is a fulfillment of that promise and I am indeed very delighted that it is taking place today”.

“To date we have trained 17,898 federal officers.  The programme was initiated due to the observed skills and knowledge gaps in the nation’s Public Service.

The objective of the training is: to build and strengthen the ability of officers to efficiently and effectively deliver service and contribute significantly to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Vision 20:2020 programme and other National Development Agenda through higher productivity and performance,” he stated.
