The Federal Government has been urged to quickly intervene in revamping the moribund multi-faceted Ajaokuta Steel Complex in order to revolutionise the engineering industry.

Besides, the revamping of the complex would help in solving employment problem in the country by engaging the numerous jobless engineers.

The Managing Director, Adumek Integrated Engineering Services Ltd, Abuja,  Mr  Adu Moses Kayode, made the remarks yesterday in a chat with newsmen.

According to him, Ajaokuta is the engineering hub of the country and as such should not be toyed with.

Kayode, who is an expert in elevators, escalators and conveyor belts amongst others, noted that it was disturbing that,  Ajaokuta Complex, which can provide 80 per cent of what is used in the lift industry, has been left unattended to for so long.

“The complex is not supposed to be dormant. Even if, we can be producing the rail guard there, it would go a long way and we can be exporting to other countries starting from our African countries,” he explained.

He said the complex can produce guard rails, cabins and the wheels for lifts and can provide jobs for thousands of young engineers.
