Kano state governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has finally bowed to the resolution of the state’s assembly by kicking out Interim Management Officers of six local government chairmen out of office as demanded by the lawmakers.
The IMO’s are now replaced with the Directors, Personnel Management of the respective local governments pending the appointment of new officers to manage the councils.
The governor’s action was in compliance with the resolutions of the state House of Assembly that passed a vote of no confidence on the councils’ heads in a motion sponsored in the House recently.
The House, according to its resolution, took the decision because the IMO’s failed to meet the standard and expectations of the office.
The affected Interim Management Officers are that of Ajingi, Kiru, Dawakin Tofa, Garko, Sumaila and Kibiya local government areas.
Similarly, some other local government Interim Management Officers had received warning letters from the government to either sit-up or face the wrath of the government. They are Kumbotso, Nassarawa, Minjibir and Madobi local government areas.
A release signed by the state local government ministry spokesman, Abdu Usman, said the decision to sack the six local government Interim Management officers was followed by a resolution of the state House of Assembly as part of their oversight function as provided in section 128 as contained in the 1990 constitution and as amended.
He said the decision also to do away with the IMO’s of Kibiya, Sumaila and kiru was necessitated by series of inspections carried out by the ministry which found that the duo have failed to meet the expected standard of the assigned responsibilities and their performances were below standard.
