Prof. Gajam Ardo, the Special Adviser to the Sokoto state Governor on Higher Education saidthe state government has so far committed over N8.6billion in the first phase of the state University project in Sokoto .
Ardo who disclosed this in Sokoto at a ceremony organized to receive the newly –appointed pioneer Vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Nuhu Yakub, a former vice chancellor of the University of Abuja .
According to the Special Adviser, the figure excludes the costs of the execution of additional projects under the phase .
These he said, included the construction of the perimeter fencing, conversion of the road from the main gate to the Senate building to two lanes from one, as well as the conversion of the senate building from a two-storey building to three .
He also stated that, the state governor has recently approved the construction of seventy houses for both the academic and non academic staff of the university .
Ardo said that, the visitor to the institution, Governor Aliyu Wamakko was committed to its vision and mission of becoming a world class university .
Ardo further expressed confidence in the ability of the new Vice chancellor to move the institution forward in line with its laws , vision and mission .
He pledged the sustained support and cooperation of the department towards ensuring the success of the university.
“We are also happy that, the Emir of Dutse in Jigawa State and the former NSO Boss, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi had been appointed as chancellor and pro-chancellor of the university respectively”.
