The apex social cultural group of the Southern Kaduna People has asked members of the National Assembly to immediately begin the process of splitting Kaduna State into two or risk massive revolt from the people.

The people under its umbrella body Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), also urged lawmakers to begin the process of amending the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

They said without repealing section 8 of the constitution, the long dream of the people will be a hoax against the wishes of Nigerians.

President of the Union, Ephraim Goje, told journalists in Kaduna that the people are watching the present National Assembly members in their quest to revisit the constitutional amendment adding, “it will amount to a revolt if the lawmakers do not repeal section 8 of the constitution to allow creation of additional states.”

“This amendment will not be business as usual. It is on record that it’s only the military that have created states in the country. It started from regions when the population was not as big as it is today. Each time the National Assembly visits the constitution written by the military, they always skip section 8 which is against the wishes of many Nigerians

“Kaduna state is third in Nigerian’s population with only 23 local governments. Is that fair?”
