Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun has called on governors in the South West Zone to pool their resources together to provide regional aerial surveillance in order to check incursion into the region.

Aregbesola made the call in Ibadan  while delivering a lecture at the University of Ibadan Centre for Sustainable Development.

The governor’s lecture was entitled:  “Regional Integration and Nigeria’s Development Prospects. ’’

"Constant aerial surveillance can be done within the South West to check any insurgency and tame armed robbery among other security challenges," he said.

Aregbesola, who noted that the purchase of armoured personnel carriers had not checked armed robbery, argued  that the purchase of helicopters to tackle crime would be more effective.

He said tackling the challenge of insecurity in the area would require the concerted efforts of all the governors in the region.

This, he said, could be achieved  by pooling resources together and designing a  regional security network which would  make the region impenetrable to criminals.
