Security Agencies Strategise Against Boko Haram In Plateau

Security agencies in Plateau are mapping out strategies to tackle the Islamic Boko Haram sect the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ayeni, has said.

Ayeni told newsmen on Friday in Jos that intelligence had revealed that the sect was planning to carry out major attacks in the state at the weekend.

He, therefore, urged members of the public to be at alert.

The commissioner said that the stakeholders' security meeting on June 21, directed worshippers to adopt measures to safeguard their places of worship.

``It is real that Plateau State is a target of suicide bombings this weekend. We must adopt a holistic approach and do everything possible to stop suicide bombings in the state.

``We have a common enemy in Boko Haram and all of us must confront it so that we can live. There must be absolute vigilance and alertness by all to checkmate bombers in Plateau State. ”

Ayeni advised worshippers to go to their various homes immediately after services, warning against congregating to be targeted by suicide bombers.

He called on citizens to volunteer information to security agencies noting that ``proactive policing is the cheapest, most cost effective and saves lots of lives. ”

He also urged both the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam as well as Christian and Muslim youths to create a forum for enthroning trust among adherents of the two faiths.

The commissioner also called on government at all levels to provide security agencies with gadgets capable of detecting explosives at check points.

He called on Federal and Plateau Governments to implement the recommendations of various panels on the Jos crises to ensure lasting solution to security challenges in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there has been tight security in Jos with battle-ready military personnel strategically positioned in the city.
