President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday relieved Gen Andrew Azazi (rtd) and Dr. Haliru Bello of their jobs as National Security Adviser and Defence Minister respectively.
Confirming the report of the duo's sack in a telephone chat with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, who did not give details for the sack said Azazi has been replaced by Colonel Gambo Dasuki (rtd).
But the new Defence Minister was yet to be announced as at press time yesterday.
Jonathan was said to have been visibly angry with the NSA over criticisms even by PDP big wigs over the inept manner which he has handled the security situation in the country.
His tenure has witnessed an escalation in deadly bomb attacks by the extremist Islamist sect, Boko Haram.
Besides, Azazi has been accused of openly politicising his office by making statements that was considered as unfavourable to the Northern parts of the country; hence the pressure by some party leaders from that region to send hom out of office.
